 IMPORTANCE OF BEING ABLE TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE FICTION BY VICTOR

First of all, let me define and look at the difference between fiction and non-fiction. According to Learning Easy English, a YouTube channel that teaches English language and literature, fiction "refers to plot, settings, and characters created from imagination" (Learning Easy English, 2020, "Fiction vs Nonfiction", [1](^1^)). Fiction movies or cartoons aim at captivating us. On the contrary, non-fiction is based on real people and the real life stories. Non-fiction movies or materials aim at giving us information and being educational. (Learning Easy English, 2020, "Fiction vs Nonfiction".

   It is important to know that there are four main literary genres: drama, fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. All of them have subgenres. One of fiction's subgenres is historical fiction, which is based on real history. For example, Gone with the Wind is a novel that is based on the real American Civil War history. However, the characters are not real and what goes on in the novel is not real either. But it was based on something that happened in the history of America. (English Units, 2017, "Historical Fiction".

   It is therefore important to analyze fiction critically, because it might look or sound real. This may mislead or confuse us about the facts and events of the past. The meaning of real history or story might end up losing its purpose and being misunderstood. Critical analysis can help us distinguish between fiction and reality, and appreciate the artistic and creative aspects of fiction without compromising the historical accuracy and integrity.

   This reminds me of what happened when I was a kid, after watching a fiction movie. I made fake wings, got up on a small hill and jumped. I was pretty sure that I would fly like a fiction character, and start jumping on my enemies' heads. Surprisingly, after jumping, I fell back to the ground. Thank God I was not hurt.

In conclusion, it is important to analyze fiction critically, because it might look or sound real. This may mislead or confuse us about the facts and events of the past. The meaning of real history or story might end up losing its purpose and being misunderstood. Critical analysis can help us distinguish between fiction and reality, and appreciate the artistic and creative aspects of fiction without compromising the historical accuracy and integrity.

According to Smith (2020), "the violence we see around our communities" is partly a result of watching fiction movies that glorify or normalize violence (Smith, 2020, "The Impact of Fiction Movies on Violence". He argues that fiction movies can desensitize us to the consequences of violence, and influence our attitudes and behaviors towards violence. He also warns that children are especially vulnerable to the effects of fiction movies, as they may not be able to differentiate between fantasy and reality, or understand the moral implications of violence.

We should take responsibility to help our children analyze what they should take and leave from fiction movies. We should teach them how to critically evaluate the messages and values of fiction movies, and how to compare and contrast them with the real world. We should also encourage them to express their opinions and feelings about fiction movies, and listen to their perspectives and concerns. Therefore, we should help our children distinguish between the real and the fake worlds, and help them fit accordingly.
