SELF DIRECTED LEARNING BY VICTOR MUSHIMBAMI
What does it mean to take ownership of your own learning?

To take ownership of your own learning means not waiting for someone to push you to learn something. It means doing it because you love it and are motivated by it, not because you are told to do so. It is something you enjoy, something you want to do without being instructed or directed. In other words, you are a "self-directed learner" (Uopeople, 2021).
Self-directed learning gives you more advantages because you do it at your own pace. You do it because you are interested in it, not because you have to. Self-directed learning can be improved by using various strategies and resources. (Ted Talk Conference, 2014).
What is the difference between active and passive learning?
According to Uopeople (2021), "Active learning is when you do activities, such as reading, writing, discussions or problem solving, which encourage you to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the information being looked at." (Techniques for Active Learning, para. 1).
To be an active learner, you need to think critically about the information you are reading. You also need to act upon what you have learned, not just read it. (Uopeople, 2021).
An active learner is someone who learns to teach others. He or she applies the information he or she has learned to influence the community positively. They are fully engaged in the learning process.
On the contrary, passive learning is when you only absorb the facts, but do not actively interpret or integrate them. The end result of passive learning is to be tested, not to be fully involved in the material. (Edward & Benware, 1994, p. 757).
The difference between them is that active learning focuses on what is taught, while passive learning focuses on what is caught. Passive learning is more common among television viewers, who do not interact with the content. (Eugene & Krugman, 1970).
What is the role of an instructor in a learning process?
Students are the core of any school, so it is important to make them the center of learning. This does not mean that teachers are not important. Teachers are more like counselors who guide students to be actively involved in what they are learning. Teachers should not act like masters who rule over slaves. (Burr, 1995, p. 656).
What is the role of peer assessment in learning process?
For peer assessment to be effective, students should have a similar background or interest in the field of study, so that they can learn from each other and improve their skills. (Uopeople, 2021).
